Teen RESOURCES

The Wellness Compass offers two primary resources for Teens, both designed for use in schools and nonprofits: The Wellness Compass Workbook for Teens and materials to help you facilitate Teen Wellness Circles. Both materials provide a private space for teens to assess their wellness in eight interconnected areas and think about how they can make positive changes to create greater wellness in their lives.

Both resources help teens determine what they can do in each area to create more health and wellness in their lives, decide what changes they would like to make, answer reflective questions, and have a place to examine their own choices. When either is used in a group setting, opportunities become available for teens to discuss challenges to being well, and to brainstorm ways to overcome those obstacles. Stresses are normalized, and community is created.

Teen WELLNESS RESOURCES

The Wellness Compass Workbook for Teens

The Wellness Compass Workbook for Teens is designed to help teens navigate all areas of their lives with more awareness and intention. It is interactive, engaging, and even fun!

Inside, teens explore eight key aspects of wellness: Relationships, Emotions, Spirituality, Rest & Play, Care for the Body, Resilience, Organization, and School & Work.

Participants have the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences, set meaningful goals, and track their progress along the way. Whether teens are dealing with stress, navigating relationships, or figuring out their future, this workbook has got them covered.

The Workbook for Teens is most commonly used in schools or after-school programs as a framework for exploring wellness through self-reflection, learning, and discussion.

Teen Wellness Circle Program Workbook

The Teen Wellness Circle Program Workbook is used by teens in a Teen Wellness Circle, a 6-week wellness program that helps teens design the changes they are ready to make to enhance their own well-being.

In a Teen Wellness Circle, participants gather with a facilitator to: assess their own wellness, discuss important wellness lessons, support each other as they work on NEXT Steps, share the challenges of being a teen today, and build community.

Teen Wellness Circle Facilitator Guide

The Teen Wellness Circle Facilitator Guide is a guide for running the 6 sessions that make up a Teen Wellness Circle.

The facilitator will find guidelines for leading the group as well as tips for group discussions based on Motivational Interviewing.

A Teen Wellness Circle Program Workbook is needed by all group members and is recommenced to the facilitator as a companion to the facilitator guide.

Teen Self-Assessment (Interactive PDF File)

The Teen Self-Assessment is designed to help teens gain deeper insight into the current state of their well-being across different dimensions of life. It consists of eighty statements, ten for each of the eight different areas of wellness:

• Relationships • Emotions • Spirituality • Rest & Play
• Care for the Body • Resilience • Organization • Vocation

This self-reflective tool serves as a mirror, helping teens assess their current situation and identify areas of wellness that they would like to focus on.

SMART Goals Worksheet

Our SMART Goals Worksheet will help teens identify the small actions they are ready to take towards personal wellness.

SMART goals stands for:

  • S - Specific

  • M - Measurable and observable

  • A - Achievable

  • R - Relevant

  • T - Time Sensitive

The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook

(The updated version of this material—exploring the eight areas of well-being individually and in-depth—is found in the Wellness Compass Workbook for Teens.)

Our original teen book, The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook, is a colorful, 114-page consumable notebook designed for use in classrooms or in other places where teens are gathered.

Teens will learn about and discuss what wellness looks like in each of the eight areas of wellness, create SMART goals, and have a place to journal for self-reflection.

The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook Leader Guide

The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook Leader Guide is a 74-page guide containing everything a leader or teacher needs in order to facilitate a group using The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook.

The curriculum is organized into eight units, each unit taking an in-depth look at one of eight areas of wellness in a teen’s life.

WHAT TEEN WELLNESS CIRCLE PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING

The teachers at MPS (Milwaukee Public Schools) love The Teen Compass Wellness materials!
— Brett Fuller, Curriculum Specialist: Health, Physical Education, Safe and Supportive Schools, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), Wisconsin
I have found that once we look at the eight important areas of wellness in The Teen Compass Wellness Notebook, meaningful, thought-provoking discussions take place. Teens are talking and listening to their classmates and come to the conclusion they are not alone in this world. They realize that other students have the same anxieties and frustrations in trying to gain independence. Ultimately, their wellness improves on the journey to adulthood.
— Lisa Bromley, Health teacher, Shorewood High School, Wisconsin
Our Next Generation is pleased to use The Teen Compass materials as a premiere tool in our suicide prevention efforts as we help our teens achieve good mental health and strengthen their ability to build meaningful social connections.
— Our Next Generation, Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
We have discovered that The Teen Compass Wellness resource helps teens in many ways, including helping them to: set personal goals, practice healthy decision-making, become self-advocates, analyze influences, practice positive interpersonal communication, practice self management, and take personal responsibility.
